Urban Farmhouse Reveal: The Kids' Bathroom

Hi Everyone. Jess Davis back again with one of the final spaces in our Urban Farmhouse project. So far we've shown you the Kitchen, Living / Dining, Master Bedroom, Master Bath, Play Room, Boy's Room, and Guest Room.  Today we have the Kid's Bath.  You recall my design concept from a while back. Here is a refresher.

And here is the final product. I love how the industrial lights tie in with the farmhouse theme and how clean and bright the space is.

Stay tuned next week for the final space, the Powder Room.

Chic Airy Patio

Hi, Kate Cabiltes here!

As you likely already know, designer Erin Fetherston has impeccable taste as is evidenced by her home that has gone viral after being posted herehere and here (among others) as of late. I'm especially drawn to her outdoor space, a chic airy pergola-covered patio. I'm getting major Mediterranean vibes from this image of it shared by Sarah Sherman Samuel and although this look may seem too dreamy to bring to life, with just a few accents a reminiscent look could actually be achieved. You could source some decorative accessories and maybe even this amazing rustic Protected Teak Country Dining Table from one of my all time favorites Terrain. Read on for some additional ideas to channel this relaxed entertainment-worthy look in your own space, pergola or not.

Here's how to get the look on your patio or outdoor space...

Urban Farmhouse Reveal: The Guest Room

Hi Everyone.  Jess Davis back again with a few final spaces in our Urban Farmhouse project.  Thus far you've seen the Kitchen, Living / Dining, Master Bedroom, Master Bath, Play Room, and Boy's room.  Today we are hitting up the Guest Room.  Perhaps a little less interesting but still a fun space.  Here was the design board we created.

And here is the final product. Light, airy and neutral. My client found that vintage modigiliani print and I love how it adds so much presence in the room.

Stay tuned next week for the kids' bath!

Design Crush: Steven Gambrel

My feelings about Steven Gambrel's work can be best compared to that of an unrequited high school crush.  Every time I see a S. R. Gambrel interior I swoon and am left speechless;  his bold and confident work never disappoints!

Gambrel is classic yet modern, familiar yet unexpected, but always with a nod to the vernacular.  No matter if it's an urban penthouse, a country estate or a beach retreat, his highly customized interiors and architectural detailing are inspired by the region of that particular commission.  He clearly takes a multidisciplinary approach to design focusing on traditional detailing such as carefully proportioned millwork, bespoke hardware, authentic finishes, and a surprising use of richly saturated color to contrast with muted palettes.  The work is unquestionably timeless, comfortable, and it improves with age.

Customized and unique elements are a key component to Gambrel's aesthetic.  S.R. Gambrel has long designed custom furniture for clients, but Gambrel recently started several retail product lines:  Grove Brickworks glazed bricks with Waterworks, table accessories for the Lacquer Company,  handmade light fixtures for Urban Electric Company, and custom furniture though Dering Hall.

Check out our @neststudiohardware Instagram feed this week to see more S. R. Gambrel projects.  A sampling of his work can be found below:

Urban Farmhouse Reveal: Baby Boy's Room

Hi Everyone.  Jess Davis here. Last week was crazy so I didn't get a chance to show you a new space in our Urban Farmhouse project. Thus far you've seen the kitchen, living / dining, master bedroom, master bath, and play room.  Next up is my client's son's room. I love that this room is playful yet masculine and not too baby-ish.  It's a nursery but it will grow with him to be his big-boy room. Here is our design board:

And the after photos. I love it when the concept board is so true to the final product.  What do you think?

Stay tuned next week as we take a look at the guest bedrooms!

10 Things I can't live without: Sharon Michaels

Hi Everyone. So you've read about the 10 things I (Jess Davis) can't live without and we've heard from Jessica Burne and Elizabeth Boland.  Next up is Sharon Michaels who is in charge of orders and customer service - our account manager so to speak. Sharon comes to love and appreciate luxury hardware by way of musical theatre and advertising. Although the closest Sharon has been to hardware in the past was a prop on a set or stage, she landed the lucky role of Account Management at Nest Studio, right after her 5 year role of CEO (aka "SAHM") with her husband; two awesome boys, and French bulldog, Elvis. With her background in theater and production, she happily brings her creative energy, organizational and problem-solving skills to the team.  Still, she often threatens to bring show tunes to the daily pick list for music at the office. Take it away Sharon:

So… Here are my 10 top things for what it's worth. I could have given you 20, but I won’t be greedy.  These are tough times.

Caramels- I think these candies are my absolute favorite.  I have consistently loved them since I was 6 years old.  I remember trying them for the first time at my Aunt's house where she always had a candy bowl out. Butterscotch is a close runner up, but caramels are my go to at any party.

Hamilton Soundtrack - Just because I’m no longer performing, doesn’t mean that the musical theatre geek in me has died.  I am constantly listening to musical theatre on repeat until I can perfect the role (even if only performed in my kitchen).  Hamilton has been on repeat for a while now, even my kids are obsessed. Some people play pop music loudly from their car. Me? It’s Hamilton.

Almost Bare-Bobbi Brown perfume - This my latest and greatest favorite, thanks to a dear friend of mine’s suggestion.  I have always been attracted to “clean, soapy smelling” perfumes.  In the past, I have fallen in love with Benandre, Banana Republic’s W,  Demeter's Pure Soap.

Ricky’s Bungee - These ties are the best for thick curly hair.  Countless times, i’ve had hair ties break on me or they get tangled in my hair and rip my hair apart.  These wrap around my hair and does not leave the indent in my hair.

Curling iron - I need an iron that gets real hot. I no longer have the time to cater to my hair demands. I used to joke that my hair was in training, when I spent hours on my hair. Now, I’ve resorted to a good curling iron to curl the end of my hair that is sticking straight out because I need a haircut.

Rita Hazan Root Concealer - So it’s no secret that I am turning grey and my roots are showing a lot quicker than I would like them to. It’s hard enough to get to my colorist. This hair spray saves me.  It helps hide the grey as a quick fix until you can get the color done.  It washes out and leaves no residue.

Ouidad Climate Control - Do we see a pattern here… This is the best hair product and I can probably live on this alone.  It’s so thin and watery.  I douse my hair with it and it dries so nicely, taking the frizz out of my hair.

My Day Wives - Everybody needs them.  It’s that friend of yours that you assume you will see them at least once a day, whether it’s at the diner or the playground. It’s that friend that you know you can count on to pick up your kid from school if you are stuck at Michaels picking up crafts for a birthday party that you’re planning. It’s unconditional love. I couldn’t live without these ladies- G.F, S.G-You know who you are!

Cedar Ridge Coffee - I sorta function in the morning, but not without coffee. Like clockwork, I drop the kids off at school and my car automatically drives to the Cedar Ridge Cafe in Maplewood.  Not just a great cup of coffee, but good food, a friendly staff, a great community and a good hug from the owner to start the day before I go to work. Flawless!

Sushi - I think I could eat sushi every day. When I was pregnant, I made the choice to stay away from raw fish and I used to have dreams that I was eating sushi.  That was one of the first meals I had after delivering both of my boys.

Gold Geometric Powder Room

Hi again, it's Kate Cabiltes!

After moving into my new home recently I'm in full on nesting mode and after years of going wallpaper free in rental after rental, I am finally considering wallpapering my own half bath. I have noticed lots of fun looks involving metallics with a focus on geometric shapes with a few favorites. A few of my faves that I came across while doing my rabbit hole of Pinterest research are herehere and here.

This vignette from Architectural Digest plays with various shapes and shades of gold. Generally bathrooms are ideal to experiment with busy wallpaper as they are typically the smallest room in your home so loud graphics or colors won't feel too overwhelming. Powder rooms are great room to start with and if you like the results you can work your way up to a larger room such as a study or even a master bedroom!

Here's how to get the look in your powder room...
