Chic Modern Master Bedroom

Wednesday, August 16, 2017

Hi all, it's Kate Cabiltes!

I spotted this beauty of a bedroom recently on my fave blog My Domaine recently and can't get my mind off of it. Designed by Cali based boho designer Amber Interiors, this master bedroom was transformed by her brilliant play of color and pattern. She smartly used a small neutral print wallpaper to downsize a gargantuan space and filled a good portion of the room with a large iron canopy bed. Texture was added through the denim love seat in front and the layered rugs, one natural and the other colorful and eclectic. Crisp modern elements like the arrow pendant and mid century modern night stands balance out those various patterns, causing the room to look cohesive yet playful.

Bold Graphic Powder Room

Thursday, August 3, 2017

Hey, Kate Cabiltes here!

I recently saved a photo from an article on My Domaine, my daily go to for interior inspiration, which highlighted this beautiful powder room by interior designer Elizabeth Roberts. I fell in love with the bold use of color and pattern used in this traditional, likely older powder room. The contrasting colors of the mustard yellow and orange rug and the green of the wallpaper are fun together. The decor like the hanging pendant and the nude portrait add some personality and character without going over the top. And I'm convinced you can never go wrong painting a door black. Bottom line - I'm a huge fan!

Classic Sophisticated Dining Room

Wednesday, July 19, 2017

Morning all, Kate Cabiltes here!

I've been following Boston based interior designer and owner of dreamy home decor boutique HudsonJill Goldberg for a minute now. When Domino shared one of her recent dining room projects in an article on making a home your own, I couldn't resist featuring this stunner. Home to mid century lovers, this room was filled with iconic mid century nods along with polished staples like a marble Restoration Hardware table. The green drapery is the pop of color that this neutral space welcomes. A classic room with some modern updates, this spot would be a gem to entertain in.

Artsy Living Room Haven

Friday, July 7, 2017

Hi, Kate Cabiltes here!

There are zillions of summer homes bringing me inspiration lately and this Hamptons beaut by designer Tamara Magel is a clear favorite. She reimagined this 12,600 square foot estate and executed a fabulous mid century modern update. Her plays with finishes and shapes is noteworthy as is her use of fun catchy artwork. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw her living room. I love the use of this cheeky "Blah Blah Blah" artwork anchored by lots of neutral - but textured - furniture. What a stunning room this would be to entertain in after a day on the beach, no?!

Bold Gender Neutral Nursery

Wednesday, June 21, 2017

Hi all, it's me Kate Cabiltes!
I came across the charming flat of London retailer Alex Eagle on Domino recently. Each room is thoughtfully designed and filled with beautiful vignettes much like one of her shops. My favorite spot is her 6 month old's nursery which is bold yet refined and can be appreciated for its design sensibilities. The paper mache animal head statement wall is adorable but the striped red and white wallpaper which lines even the built in shelves to make the stripes continuous is the best. The mid century furniture pieces that anchor the room bring help from some of the greats: Serge Mouille (the light), Fritz Hansen (the chair) and a white rounded crib from Anita's House. While the three-arm ceiling lamp she uses is amazing, a more cost effective (and colorful) alternative would be this Midcentury Chandelier from Pottery Barn Kids.

Cozy Farm Kitchen

Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Hi, it's Kate Cabiltes!

I came across this home tour featured on Domino by Studio McGee and was in awe of how this Salt Lake City based firm transformed a drab 1930s kitchen to a cozy yet bold room. The open shelving on the squared (as opposed to typically rectangular) subway tiles makes for endless storage and display possibilities. The colors throughout are simple yet eye catching. The jewel toned green cabinets pop against the whites and neutrals and the brass hardware and light fixture add some yellow undertones which make the area shine. Whether you take cues from one of many of the pieces of this look, the transitional nature of this style could easily be mimicked in almost any kitchen.

Classic Kids Bedroom Retreat

Thursday, May 25, 2017

Hey there, it's Kate Cabiltes!

This kids bedroom by Shannon Wollack of LA design firm Studio Life.Style is the ultimate kids retreat. The space features built in bunk beds coated in a custom paint by Soho House and outfitted in neutral hued sheets and mud cloth pillows. While the space reads fresh and minimalist, fun outdoorsy details like the Pendleton blanket and rope handles keep it playful. The blue palette carries through in the ombre drapery and textured baskets. This is a room that is tasteful and can be enjoyed as a child continues to grow and I'm sure some adults such as myself would be completely happy relaxing in this !

Crisp Neutral Dining Room

Thursday, May 11, 2017

Hi there, it's Kate Cabiltes!

After spotting the image of this crisp neutral dining room by decorator (and former Million Dollar DecoratorRoss Cassidy on My Domaine I could not manage to get it out of out of my brain! Cassidy, who has recently launched a collection with CB2, has a style that resonates well with the modern furnishings brand. I admire how he took a room that is solely neutral hues and made it downright interesting regardless. He employed various shapes from the octagon mirror to the bubble chandelier to draw interest and thought the lines are clean there is enough texture to go around. This room could appeal to so many dinner guests as it is stylish without being too much.

Rich Layered Living Room

Wednesday, April 26, 2017

Hello, Kate Cabiltes here!

Architectural Digest recently featured a Nashville home tour of British model and musician Karen Elson and I was instantly enamored with several of the rooms but most of all her living room. As a true lover of green (which also happens to be the Pantone Color of the Year) it's no surprise that this space is a favorite. In addition to the rich jewel tones that fill the room, the shapes and patterns are sophisticated without being stuffy. The angles on the lacquered bracket foot coffee table play off of the pattern in the Turkish rug. Touches of brass and cerused wood give this vignette added class and the live greens and florals are a pop of bright detail that casually complete the look.

Eclectic Vintage and Modern Master

Thursday, April 6, 2017

Hi all, it's Kate Cabiltes!

I stumbled across the talented Rosie Case while perusing a fave blog Sketch42 recently. The home tour of this native east coast editor who moved to Texas and decorated her entire home is jaw droppingly good. Her carefully curated spaces mesh vintage finds with modern classics, often styling Craigslist steals with Vladimir Kagan or Fredrick Weinberg furniture.

The pieces she chooses are sculptural in an array of color pops and she self proclaims her vignettes as "theatrical". What struck me when reading was how easy she made it sound to achieve looks with such seemingly unattainable pieces. While she undoubtedly has a special eye for interiors I'm looking forward to exploring the web for some hidden gems to hopefully achieve a similar effect in my own space!

Chic Airy Patio

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Hi, Kate Cabiltes here!

As you likely already know, designer Erin Fetherston has impeccable taste as is evidenced by her home that has gone viral after being posted herehere and here (among others) as of late. I'm especially drawn to her outdoor space, a chic airy pergola-covered patio. I'm getting major Mediterranean vibes from this image of it shared by Sarah Sherman Samuel and although this look may seem too dreamy to bring to life, with just a few accents a reminiscent look could actually be achieved. You could source some decorative accessories and maybe even this amazing rustic Protected Teak Country Dining Table from one of my all time favorites Terrain. Read on for some additional ideas to channel this relaxed entertainment-worthy look in your own space, pergola or not.

Gold Geometric Powder Room

Wednesday, March 8, 2017

Hi again, it's Kate Cabiltes!

After moving into my new home recently I'm in full on nesting mode and after years of going wallpaper free in rental after rental, I am finally considering wallpapering my own half bath. I have noticed lots of fun looks involving metallics with a focus on geometric shapes with a few favorites. A few of my faves that I came across while doing my rabbit hole of Pinterest research are herehere and here.

This vignette from Architectural Digest plays with various shapes and shades of gold. Generally bathrooms are ideal to experiment with busy wallpaper as they are typically the smallest room in your home so loud graphics or colors won't feel too overwhelming. Powder rooms are great room to start with and if you like the results you can work your way up to a larger room such as a study or even a master bedroom!

Modern Office Space

Wednesday, February 22, 2017

Hi, it's Kate Cabiltes!

I bookmarked an office tour of a space designed by Meredith Heron featured on Style Me Pretty several years ago and I keep coming back to it. Meredith's timeless style is evident in her office makeover which resulted in a finished space that is energizing and yet sophisticated. This Toronto interior designer used neutrals and jewel tones to fill this room. With velvet chairs and a sleek white table, a bold textured look is achieved. She placed several cowhide mosaic rugs in various patterns on the already carpeted floor, a smart trick to separate a room into various work areas. By adding a large fiddle leaf fig, the energy in the room expands dramatically, creating a vibrant area to get work done and also worthy of spending time with colleagues or clients as needed.

Moody Farmhouse Kitchen

Tuesday, February 7, 2017

Happy February, it's Kate Cabiltes again!

I am a complete HGTV fan and worship any home designed by Joanna Gaines. This cozy space by Gaines lined in white subway tile backsplash and open shelving is farmhouse kitchen heaven! It boasts carrara marble countertops with a farmhouse sink and is filled with various rustic accoutrements like hanging pendant lamps and loads of wooden and cast iron serving ware. The dark green paint covering the cabinets adds a moody vibe that is super chic but still has warmth to it.

Whimsical Metallic Nursery

Wednesday, January 25, 2017

Hi friends, it's Kate Cabiltes!

I am a sucker for a charming neutral nursery and this beautifully constructed sanctuary featured on Bungalow is a true stunner. Decked out in neutrals and pops of metallics, this whimsical gender neutral spot is put together with items that can last well beyond infancy. The ever popular peacock mirror looks good in entryways and bedrooms alike and I know very few toddler OR adult women who would turn away an elephant side table. The key here is choosing a palette (grey, white and metallic) and piecing together comparable amounts of each in varying shades throughout the room. The result is a soothing balanced oasis for you and your little one to enjoy...

Bold Minimalist Dining Room

Monday, January 9, 2017

Happy New Years all, Kate Cabiltes again!

There are so many looks trending in the mid century or minimalist categories nowadays that it's hard to narrow down your scheme. This vignette captured by Brooklyn photographer Nicole Franzen emulates minimalist but bold with its contrasting blacks and whites and several large statement pieces. By focusing on the idea of "less is more" but choosing thoughtful furnishings and accents with unique quality materials, a luxe yet calm look is formed. Rattan or cane chairs look fresh with most any dining table and a light fixture consisting of multiple orbs can really ground a centerpiece. Adding an abstract painting and some fresh leaves can add a kick of brightness to your room.

Warm Holiday Guest Room

Tuesday, December 27, 2016

Happy Holidays all, Kate Cabiltes here!

As a host with holiday guests you know of certain must have guest essentials to stock the room with, but striving to outfit a room in a cozy way can make all the difference in truly making guests feel comfortable. The country home of Ashley Putman featured on Southern Living several years ago (as well as numerous other blogs and publications including Lonny) provided endless inspiration to me when seeking out cozy winter vignettes for my own small spaces. This guest room featuring the classic Pendleton blanket is filled with warm cozy neutrals that give off an eclectic beachy mood as well. To get the look, pull rattan or seagrass elements, lots of stripes, and a few kitschy knick knacks and you have the look. White paneling on the ceiling or headboard add additional coastal vibes. This is a look that can work year round but is appreciated even more during the cold Northeastern winters!
